Businesses in Suffolk, worried about the affects of an unexpected disaster, attended a breakfast event hosted by Corbel Solutions Ltd and Pound Gates. They provided an opportunity to hear from a business that had gone through the important process of creating a disaster recovery plan.
A joint event hosted by Corbel and Pound Gates on Wednesday 1st October in the Sir Bobby Robson Suite at Ipswich Town Football Club was well attended by over 50 invited guests. With a presentation from local business, Thompson and Morgan, Keith Lewis their Group Finance Director gave an insight into the challenges for their business and the plans in place to mitigate a potential disaster.
Thompson and Morgan, a client of both Corbel and Pound Gates, gave a very informative overview of the critical business questions that they faced as an expanding business in an evolving environment. Corbel opened their Disaster Recovery Centre recently, and this has become part of Thompson and Morgan’s, amongst other local businesses, strategy following a disaster.
“We felt that to fully understand the thought process behind creating a disaster recovery plan, it would benefit local businesses to hear from someone who has had to address these within their own business environment,” said Peter Tickner, Director of Corbel.
“With Corbel already working closely with Pound Gates, the obvious choice was Thompson and Morgan who already work with both organisations” said Dave Collins of Pound Gates.
“No one wants to experience any kind of disaster, however, with a heritage of over 150 years in horticulture and being one of the UK’s largest Mail Order Seed and Plant companies we have to be prepared. Working with both Corbel and Pound Gates has enabled us to create a plan that in such an event, we are able to maintain our “business as usual” approach. I am delighted to be involved and able to share some of the challenges we had to overcome,” said Keith Lewis Group Finance Director, Thompson and Morgan.
After Keith addressed the audience Rob Thacker from Pound Gates explained the reason businesses must prepare for a major disaster, touching upon how insurance companies support and deal with serious claims, but more crucially risk management and uninsured areas. Pound Gates context for supporting businesses after a disaster led seamlessly to Karen Rogers from Corbel explaining the critical exposures that all businesses face with data & telephony, and how their recovery centre is a cost effective and practical way to achieve peace of mind.
