Company News

The Directors at Corbel are becoming renowned for taking on big challenges; last year our CEO Paul Lough swapped the boardroom for the jungle and camping in the clouds as he trekked up the highest freestanding mountain in the world. This year the baton passes to our MD Karen Rogers to take on her very own BIG challenge.

Lifelong ambition

I didn’t have to think long and hard about the challenge I wanted to undertake. Having enjoyed running as a teen I always remember sitting in front of the television watching the marathon runners on the iconic streets of London feeling in complete awe. It is a feeling that to this day still resonates with me every year I watch. Nothing beats seeing the community of London come together. More than 40,000 people each with their own background, passion and personal motivation for challenging themselves mentally and physically to run the 26.2 miles. The comradery and emotion on their faces as they cross that line has led me to fill in the application many times over the years to no avail.

Until now.

I was almost rendered speechless when I found out I had got a ballot space and I am unbelievably excited about taking part in the greatest race of all time.

People

Achieving something you’ve dreamt of can make you feel a little apprehensive when the reality hits, although the excitement definitely helped me get through some of the early training sessions.

Aligning my training with how we approach business at Corbel has really helped me to focus on being successful. Although it will just be me running the 26.2 miles, the support of the people around me is what will get me across the line. From words of encouragement from customers, my colleagues joining me on my midweek runs, my running club comrades, to my patient and supportive family putting up with lonely Sunday mornings, it really is the people that are making the real difference to this journey.

Motivation

This challenge isn’t about me. Its about using this momentous platform to make a difference. I will be completely out of my comfort zone pushing my body to do more than it has ever done but for some, I know this wouldn’t even be an option. My youngest sister Zoe has Multiple Sclerosis and I have seen first hand the impact it has had on her life and the strength she has shown to battle this awful disease day in day out. Over 100,000 people live with MS in the UK today and any money raised for the MS Society funds research to help beat MS. I passionately believe in the work that this charity does and if you are able to donate to my marathon challenge however great or small it will make a huge difference and to improve the lives of many.
