Through modifying an existing framework of Microsoft AI, a new tool has been created that can now distinguish our mood, as well as our facial features. Artificial intelligence is a term used to describe the mimicking of human intelligence through systems and machines – there is opportunity for this information that has been collected to then subsequently improve itself. We all are aware that technologies are constantly developing, from facial to thumb print recognition, from PCs to smartphones, but just how much are these developments impacting your business? Microsoft have been working hard to ensure that these developments will not have a negative impact and are restricting access to certain features where necessary to reduce the chances of risk.
Specialists are sceptical the new emotion recognition tool – Azure Face – violates human rights – with a concern that it may be misused. These specialists want AI to have a solely positive impact and feel this new tool contradicts this. It may be difficult for some to understand why a feature such as this would be necessary, with it potentially being seen as an infringement of our privacy.
However, this idea is not going to be given up on completely, despite the fact the public probably won’t have access to it. It has been identified that a controlled access for specific needs may be necessary within Microsoft AI e.g., it may be beneficial in assisting the visually impaired. Which demonstrates just how much Microsoft are doing to prevent risk.
To prevent impersonation or fraud being committed by cyber criminals, individuals are not allowed to be recognised by their gender, age, hair, and facial expressions. Microsoft believe these are features which hackers could potentially impersonate in order to get into users accounts.
As well as restricting the use of Azure Face, Microsoft is also limiting certain businesses access to its Custom Neural Voice service. Said to be very convincing, this is an application which transforms text to speech in a rather lifelike way. Microsoft AI have been making a series of changes in order to take a more responsible leadership position and ultimately protect you and your business.
Furthermore, there is an additional range of actions that Microsoft have taken in order to protect users from threats and scams. A new-found feature has been added to Microsoft 365, that goes beyond the original Tenant Allow Block List feature. Originally, blocked contacts would be unable to reach you by email, but now the update means that you are unable to send an email to these blocked contents from your end. This has been put in place to reduce the risk of you being caught out in a phishing scam. This feature is forecasted to be available by the end of July. It is an additional benefit that using cloud services such as Microsoft 365 will provide, Corbel Solutions can help you to take your business to Microsoft 365 through its office 365 support services.
