Here at Suffolk based Corbel, we truly believe in the power of community. We know that our strength comes not just from what we do as a company, but from the connections we build in our local area. That’s why we’re thrilled to offer work experience placements to local Suffolk students. It’s more than just a chance for them to gain hands-on, real-world knowledge and skills in their chosen fields. It’s an opportunity for us to give back to the community that has given us so much and support the budding talent right on our doorstep.
Plus, it’s a wonderful way for us to stay connected with the vibrant, youthful energy that these students bring! They teach us as much as we teach them, and that’s the kind of community spirit we cherish at Corbel. It’s not just about work, it’s about nurturing and empowering the leaders of tomorrow, right here, today.
This year, we had the pleasure of welcoming Emma and Owen, two bright students from a local Ipswich school, into our Marketing and Technical departments for work experience placements. Now, through personalised interviews, we’re excited to gain first-hand insights into their experiences and adventures with the Corbel team.
Why did you choose to do your work experience at Corbel?
When searching for a placement for my work experience I was looking for a company that had a marketing team that I could work alongside and learn new skills.
Not only did I get the joy of working with the amazingly talented marketing team but I also got to experience and learn a large variety of different skills and talents.
In addition to this the whole team at Ipswich based Corbel were very welcoming friendly and made it a lovely environment to work in.
What have you enjoyed most during your work experience at IT Support company Corbel?
Whilst being at Corbel I completed a wide range of varied tasks and have thoroughly enjoyed them all. If I had to pin point one thing that I enjoyed the most, I would have to say the planning and scheduling of all the social media posts via a programme called Hootsuite on various social media platforms for the month ahead would have been my favourite.
Utilising a brand new program and using it to plan posts for the company was an amazing experience, alongside that I enjoyed getting to use a design program I had previous experience in and being able to design a number of different images for marketing activities.
What have you learnt from your work experience?
From my work experience I have learnt so many different things throughout my time, but the main skill I have learnt and developed throughout this experience is all about the marketing side of business and how crucial it is. Also, getting to use a brand-new program to me and being taught how to use it and then doing some independent work on it really was a lovely experience for me.
Has your work experience placement helped you make decisions around your future career?
Yes! I would definitely say that through my work experience placement it has confirmed to me that in my future path I would like to pursue a marketing and social media related career path.
I’ve really enjoyed my work experience at Corbel and I hope that I will get to work with them again sometime in the future. Seeing an operation like this is wonderful to see, getting to watch everyone work together and seeing everyone doing various jobs and how they all link with each other.
Why did you choose to do your work experience at Corbel?
I chose to do my work experience at Corbel because as a company they offer a service which I have a great interest in. During my work experience I got to explore my interest in IT and technology and got to work closely alongside some very talented people who work in that sector.
What have you enjoyed most during your work experience at IT Support company Corbel?
I have most enjoyed learning the imaging process and how that works. This was a totally new skill to me which I had no experience of and getting to learn this, alongside the guidance and support of the technical experts was a great experience.
What have you learnt from your work experience?
One thing I has learnt from my time here at Corbel is how different types of switches and cables work and how they are used effectively. Having only previously learnt a small amount about this at school, I was able to see this in action and develop my knowledge and understanding further.
Was your work experience how you thought it would be?
Prior to beginning work experience at Corbel I was unsure what the day to day life of a member of the technical department would be like. Corbel showed me that there are many different roles that the team carry out throughout the day and it was great that I was not only able to view these in action, but also get the chance to put these into practice and develop my own skills.
Has your work experience placement helped you make decisions around your future career?
Yes absolutely, working in that sort of environment, completing varying tasks has definitely made me think about pursuing a job in the IT and Technology sector in the future. I had a wonderful time at Corbel and have really enjoyed my work experience.
We are thrilled to hear that Emma and Owen had a rewarding time during their work experience at Corbel. Their enthusiasm and fresh perspectives have greatly enriched our team, and we are immensely proud of the growth they have demonstrated in such a short time. To know they’ve enjoyed their journey with us is the best reward we could ask for.
