Maritime Transport Limited (MTL) whose head office is based in Felixstowe in Suffolk, are one of the most successful transport companies in the United Kingdom today and the country’s largest privately owned container transport operator.
In more recent years, the Maritime business has expanded and diversified into other sectors of the international supply chain, offering distribution and other transport-related services, including truck sales under the Secondhandtrucks.co.uk banner.
Maritime handles over 8,000 moves a week, employs 1,100 highly flexible staff and operates a fleet of over 1,400 vehicles.
Having worked with Maritime for a number of years, assisting with the procurement of IT Equipment, Corbel was appointed as Maritime’s new technology partner in 2012.
Corbel was awarded the prestigious contract to design and build a new IT infrastructure for Maritime and to migrate all relevant data to their new hardware which is hosted at our data centre in Corbel’s Head Office in Ipswich.
As part of the overall solution, a Disaster Recovery (DR) infrastructure is hosted at a separate location; with the replicated computer system housed at Corbel’s DR suite, just outside of Ipswich.
A new MPLS WAN was designed and implemented to provide connectivity between the hosted site (including the DR site) and Maritime’s Head Office in addition to 19 Maritime depots (now 27 sites) located throughout England.
Having designed, built and tested Maritime’s new hosted hardware, all data was then migrated to the new computer system in November 2012.
“Corbel Solutions took the time to understand our requirements by meeting not only with our Key Application Vendors but also by visiting a cross section of our offices to truly understand how our company functions and how we utilise technology to optimise our business processes. This thorough approach enabled Corbel to propose a new infrastructure that is of an efficient and resilient design having due consideration for disaster recovery”
