3CX Security Breach impacts local Suffolk Businesses

Company News

You may have woken up to the news this morning that there has been a significant Cyber 3CX Security Breach. 3CX, a phone system used by businesses across Suffolk has faced a Cyber Attack overnight.

3CX is a popular phone system that businesses use to manage their telephony requirements. It works over the internet and lets people use different devices to make and receive calls. It also has useful features like call recording and voicemail and you can install it on your own servers or use it from the cloud and many local businesses based in Ipswich and across Suffolk have found it incredibly successful for their own business communication.

Whilst this is not a system we partner with here at Corbel, we are very aware on the uncertainty and worry a Cyber Breach can cause. Here, we share some best practice advice on what you should consider if you have been impacted.

If your 3CX system has been breached, here are some steps you can take to mitigate the damage and prevent further breaches:

  1. Change all passwords: Change all passwords for your 3CX system immediately, including admin and user passwords. Ensure that all users choose strong and unique passwords.
  2. Disable unnecessary features: Disable any features or settings that are not essential for your business operations.
  3. Check call logs: Review call logs to identify any suspicious activity or unauthorised calls.
  4. Update software and firmware: Make sure your 3CX system is running the latest software and firmware updates to address any known vulnerabilities.
  5. Secure your network: Ensure that your network is secure by using firewalls, VPNs, and other security measures to protect against unauthorised access.
  6. Implement two-factor authentication: Implement two-factor authentication for all users to add an additional layer of security.
  7. Educate your team: Educate your team on how to recognise and report suspicious activity, and train them on best practices for data security.
  8. Consider hiring a security consultant: If your breach is significant, consider hiring a security consultant to help you identify and remediate any vulnerabilities in your system.

Also you must remember to also inform any relevant authorities and affected customers in the event of a significant breach. If you need any further advice or support on what to do in this scenario, as Cyber Security specialists, please call a member of our team on 01473 241515 or email us at info@corbel.co.uk

Hannah migrated us over to Microsoft 365 back in 2020. The whole migration was planned out really well and managed through to a really high standard. Hannah was a pleasure to work with, friendly, approachable and very patient. Nothing was too much trouble. I would thoroughly recommend Hannah to any local business looking for IT services.

We have recently begun working with Corbel and have been really impressed so far. The team are very friendly and have resolved some long-standing IT issues for us that others have been unable to resolve; never hesitating to go above and beyond to exceed expectations. If the team are on a call about one specific issue and notice another unrelated issue, they will look to fix this straight away for us which is greatly appreciated. I would highly recommend Corbel if you were thinking of changing IT Support providers.
