What a year 2020 has been! The Corbel Blog Written by CorbelAdmin on 18th December 2020. Well here we are… the last few days of 2020 and what a year it has been. In many ways it is quite hard to believe we are this close to Christmas. This year has shot by. I think losing all those weeks and months to lockdown made it seem like the time has gone faster … although I do remember the actual days at the time moving quite slowly! It truly has been a year like no other, if I think back to the beginning of January; there we were bursting with drive, excitement and determination to make this year even more successful than the one prior, completely unaware of the business challenges that we would all face. There are so many lessons we can take from this year, primarily the value of our health, human interaction and not taking time with our loved ones for granted. As 2020 draws to a close I’m determined not to dwell on the negatives of Coronavirus but instead focus on the triumphs of Team Corbel and how we’ve been able to pivot and navigate our way through a global pandemic. It genuinely has been a very difficult year for us, as it has for all businesses. Initially one of our greatest challenges was our technicians being unable to attend site and working out how we could overcome that physical need. As the impact of coronavirus reverberated through businesses across the UK and with many suffering, the knock on effect meant that we also lost some of our revenue streams. But, with every challenging time there are also opportunities. Technology was now more vital than ever, and as the requests for remote working grew significantly, we were able to use our expertise to support clients in areas such as cloud telephony, agile working solutions and collaborative working solutions such as Microsoft Teams. The commitment of our team as they worked relentlessly throughout uncertain times to optimise how our clients IT worked for them was something that I am truly proud of. It has been said that 2020 has pushed through 5 years of change and progress as we have all turned to technology for the solution, relying on it more than ever before. We were delighted earlier this year to be recognised as one of the leading- edge tech businesses in the whole Eastern region. As part of Tech East, a network of the most ambitious digital technology businesses, we were named as one of only two IT Support companies in the Tech East 100- a huge accolade and we are proud to be proactively making real differences to our clients businesses and showcasing the Eastern region as a place where innovative IT is driving business forward. This year also saw the exciting news that we would relocating to our brand new purpose built office located in one of the most innovative business districts in our region. Little did we know a matter of weeks after moving that the country would be placed in lockdown! It was such a shame to see our beautiful new open plan workspace empty for months. Now we are beginning to adjust to the ‘new normal’ it has been brilliant having part of the team back socially distancing and making use of our new facilities. We look forward to when we can welcome the whole team back next year and fingers crossed we will be able showcase some of our new features, such as our double spaced meeting room, and host our own educational seminars and training sessions as soon as we are able to meet face to face again! Amongst all the difficulties of this year as a business we were delighted to welcome two new staff members to team Corbel. Rhys Allen and Adam Harris, both joining our technical department this Autumn- they have been fantastic additions to the team- positive, proactive, hardworking and seamlessly fitted in at a time when adjusting to the new norm can prove challenging. Their future is bright and we are delighted to be a part of their progression in the industry. Whatever challenges 2021 will bring, after this year we know the power of technology and most of all the power of people and I for one couldn’t be prouder of team Corbel. Wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and a much brighter New Year.
